Domaine Georges Roumier
History
Domaine Georges Roumier began when Georges Roumier married Genevieve Quanquin in 1924. Her family already had vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny, and Romier began to expand the domaine’s range with small plots of land in Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Clos de Vougeot. Their son Jean-Marie took over as winemaker when he died in 1965, and today the grandson carries on the family’s winemaking tradition. The Domaine covers around 11 hectares of vineyards in the most admired places in Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Corton-Charlemagne. Their wines are characterised by their masterful balance and challenge you to be patient as they reveal all their magnificent layers.
Technology
No fertilizers or herbicides are used at the vineyards, and grapes mature with the aid of kind, loving attention. They are hand-picked, carefully sorted and partly de-stemmed. The fermenting temperature is kept low so that the subtle flavours and elegance of the wine can develop. Aging in oak for a further 15-18 months leads to another unfolding of flavours. The current winemaker Christophe Roumier’s focus throughout the entire process is to let the terroir express itself. As he has stated; "We don’t make Pinot Noir; we make wines from terroir which expresses itself through Pinot Noir."
