Domaine d'Auvenay
History
In the 1950s, Lalou Bize-Leroy studied the terroir of Burgundy and began working for her father’s négociant business, Maison Leroy. Her father had invested in the winery in the 1940s, so by 1971, she had become the Directrice and attended meetings with her father at Domaine de la Romanée Conti (DRC). Three years later, Madame Leroy became the co-manager of DRC and raised it to the top-level. In 1942, Lalou left DRC and devoted her time to her own businesses: Domaine d’Auvenay, Domaine Leroy and the original Maison Leroy.
Domaine d'Auvenay is the third estate in the Leroy empire, named after Lalou Bize-Leroy’s home. The estate has extra importance to her, as her family's original domaine has been in production even longer than Domaine de la Romanée Conti.
For years, connoisseurs have praised Domaine d'Auvenay for its exceptional quality and unique character.
Technology
Madame Leroy uses sustainable viticulture, aimed at developing the vitality of the vines. This means, the vines reach a notably high average age. Before planting new vines, they take a careful selection of cuttings from the finest old vines in the vineyard. Strict pruning and bud removal helps to limit yield and this keeps the quality of the grapes extremely high. Each bunch goes through a thorough inspection pre-harvest and at the sorting table, before arriving in the fermentation vats.
Domaine d'Auvenay, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2007 is a rich, opulent and complex wine. With incredible depth and a good structure, a long cellaring life is guaranteed. After a long ageing, Mazis-Chambertin has generous aromas of spices, leather and red fruits. It is one of the rare reds from Domaine d'Auvenay.
