Domaine Jean-Louis Chave
History
Sometimes referred to as France’s royal family when it comes to winemaking, the Chave family has been making wine in this noble northern Rhône terroir since the late 15th century. Their vineyards and winemaking tradition have passed down from father to son through the centuries. The family makes both red and white wine under the Hermitage and St.Joseph appellations. Today, the domaine is run by Gerard Chave and his son, Jean-Louis. The family’s generations of knowledge and expertise is what consistently produces highly rated and valued wines.
Technology
An intimate knowledge of the family land and a traditional approach to winemaking is what produces this domaine’s prestigious and terroir expressed wines. The family uses minimal intervention, new oak and no filtering. Grapes from their plots are vinified separately to give the winemakers more control over the blending process. The family uses minimal intervention, no filtering and oak in which to age the wines.
