A relatively new vineyard label for Aubert (the third vintage to be produced), the 2019 Chardonnay Powder House comes from eight acres of what are now estate-owned vines planted in 2013 to Hyde Old Wente and Mt. Eden clones on Goldridge soils. It prances out of the glass with showy scents of fresh nectarines, pink grapefruit, lime leaves and preserved lemons plus hints of struck flint and wet pebbles. The full-bodied palate possesses an almost electric intensity with bags of nervy citrusy flavors and a very lively backbone, finishing with great length and oodles of minerals. This should age fantastically! (Reviewed by Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
Wine Spectator
Rich and well-defined apple pastry and dried apricot flavors show notes of tangerine, with hints of toasted coconut. The luscious and well-spiced finish has creamy accents. Drink now through 2026
Vinous
The 2019 Chardonnay Powder House, from a site in Forestville, is one of the most lifted, gracious wines in the range. White flowers, mint, orchard fruit and white pepper give the Powder House its distinctly brilliant aromatics. It is an especially translucent, taut Chardonnay within this hugely impressive range. Aubert

History

Founded in 1990 by passionate winemaker Mark Aubert and his wife Teresa Aubert, this winery is a joint effort of love. Mark’s devotion to farming and his obsession for detail combined with Teresa’s finance and marketing background has made this a successful estate. Both husband and wife are Californian natives, whose wines have become some of the most sought after Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs in the region. The estate has received 100 point ratings and accolades from Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, Vinous and others.

Technology

Classical winemaking with minimal intervention underpins the Aubert philosophy. In order to create a luxury product from soil, patience and biodynamic methods that respect the rhythms and pace of nature are employed. Here, quality is favored over quantity, and all Aubert vineyards produce premium grapes, with low yield harvests. The patience and attention to detail invested in these wines give them an impressive aromatic quality, wonderful transparency and strong aging potential.

Sonoma Coast

The Sonoma Coast American Viticulture Area (AVA or appellation) stretches from the cool and foggy coast in the north, to the gentler hills of the south. The Pacific Ocean contributes to its cool, wet climate, and many vineyards planted on the northern ridge are frequently covered by fog.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay dominate the vineyards here, although other grapes, such as Pinot Gris, Zinfandel and Syrah are also present. The area includes about 2000 acres of vineyards and 10 wineries. It produces some of the highest rated and choicest wines in California.
